A man will face court after burnout offences were reported in a Riverina town over the weekend.

According to NSW Police, on Friday evening (25 October) and the early hours of Saturday (26 October), the Cootamundra CBD was subject to a number of aggravated burnout offences.

A burnout is when a driver deliberately drives a vehicle to cause a continuous loss of traction. For example, a driver who over-accelerates may cause the wheels to spin, which means the tyres lose grip on the road, staining the bitumen.

One offence occurred at the intersection of Cooper and Bourke Streets.

Officers attached to Riverina Traffic and Highway Patrol conducted an investigation and following inquiries, a 51-year-old male was issued a court attendance notice for prolonged sustained loss of traction – aggravated burnout.

He is to appear at Cootamundra Local Court on 15 December 2025.

Those who commit a burnout can receive a maximum court-imposed fine of $3300 for a first offence in NSW. For a second or subsequent offence, the offender could be fined $3300 and face nine months imprisonment. A 12-month disqualification period will apply too, if convicted.
