Alleged driver accused of Tura Beach fatal crash named

The alleged driver accused of killing a man in a single-vehicle fatal crash on the NSW Far South Coast has had his case heard in court for the first time.

Edward James McCoid, a 33-year-old from the Tweed Shire Council region, has been handed charges that include dangerous driving occasioning death over the allegations.

Previously, a NSW Police spokesperson said officers were called to Sapphire Coast Drive at Tura Beach due to reports of a vehicle rollover on the night of 21 June 2025.

The officers were told a white sedan allegedly lost control, left the road then rolled on the grass.

The two occupants, Mr McCoid and a 46-year-old man, were taken to Bega Hospital in critical conditions, but the older man sadly could not be revived.

“A crime scene was established and officers from crash investigation unit were called to commence an investigation into the circumstances surrounding this incident,” the police spokesperson said.

In August, Mr McCoid was arrested in Queanbeyan and charged with dangerous driving occasioning death, drink driving and negligent driving occasioning death.

He was granted conditional bail to appear at Bega Local Court on Tuesday (28 October).

That day, his bail was continued and the matter was adjourned to 13 January 2026.

He is excused from appearing in court if legally represented.
