Eurobodalla Shire Council’s new general manager Mark Ferguson should be able to hit the ground running after his appointment on Tuesday (21 October).

Mr Ferguson has been acting in the role since April, with Mayor Mathew Hatcher confirming the appointment after yesterday’s extraordinary council meeting.

“Mark came to us with a fantastic resume and over the past six months, not only has he brought the council together and delivered on the councillors’ expectations, he’s shown us a clear path for how we can work together to accomplish our goals,” Mayor Hatcher said.

The recruitment process was led by specialist consulting agency McArthur, with all nine councillors members of the recruitment panel.

Mr Ferguson said he decided to apply for the permanent position after enjoying the opportunities and challenges presented during his time in the interim role.

“The fact that the council is a strong and cohesive group was one reason to apply,” he said.

“The second is that the staff have a great deal of potential for growth and development and the opportunity to work with them and to act as part of a team was not something I wanted to pass up.

“Working with the community, we can deliver financial sustainability, good governance, and opportunity and growth for the people of Eurobodalla.”

Mr Ferguson is an experienced local government leader, previously serving as general manager at Coffs Harbour, Pittwater and Northern Beaches councils.

His most recent role before Eurobodalla was at Edward River Council — a ministerial appointment as a temporary adviser focused on effective governance.

Mr Ferguson holds qualifications and expertise in psychology and behavioural science, allowing him to support trust building, empathy, and collaboration, as well as resilience and innovation.
