A man has been remanded in custody after being charged with six offences relating to a pursuit on the South Coast.

A NSW Police spokesperson said a sedan was seen being driven south on Heron Road, Catalina (about 3 km south-east of Batemans Bay) at about 1 am on Saturday morning (2 August).

Police are expected to allege in court that the car had been stolen between 5 pm on Thursday (31 July) and 8 am on Friday (1 August) and had been reported stolen.

When the driver allegedly failed to stop when directed, police began a chase.

The car allegedly reached speeds of up to 120 km/h in an 80 km/h-signposted area and also crossed to the wrong side of the road.

Officers followed the car through a number of streets in Catalina before the driver lost control at the intersection of Heron Road and Gannet Place and struck a hatchback parked outside a home.

The crash caused “extensive damage” to both cars, police said. No one was inside the vehicle.

The police spokesperson also alleged the driver jumped from the moving vehicle before it struck a vacant utility that was parked in a driveway.

A short time later, officers attached to the Traffic and Highway Patrol Command arrested a man in the garage of a nearby home.

A 20-year-old man was taken to Batemans Bay Hospital for mandatory testing.

Once released, he was taken to Batemans Bay Police Station and charged with six offences, including driving a conveyance without the consent of the owner, failing to stop for police and driving without a licence.

He was refused bail and appeared before Parramatta Local Court on Sunday (3 August), where he was formally refused bail to appear in Batemans Bay Local Court on 1 September.
