Five guns allegedly stolen from Tumut recovered, man charged

A man has been charged after five guns were allegedly stolen in the Riverina last month.

NSW Police allege that between 14 and 15 September, a property on Simpson Street in Tumut was broken into and a number of items were stolen.

One of these allegedly stolen items was a firearm safe, which contained five registered firearms.

Police began an investigation into the incident and on 20 September, officers arrested a 29-year-old man in Banksia Crescent, Tumut.

He was taken to Tumut Police Station and handed 11 charges, including break enter and steal, firearm-related charges, as well as drug-related charges.

“All of the [alleged] stolen firearms have been recovered by police,” a police spokesperson said.

The man was refused bail and appeared at Wagga Wagga Local Court on 21 September, where he was formally refused bail.

He will appear before Tumut Local Court on 16 October.
