The bushfire season is upon us again, but the NSW Rural Fire Service (RFS) has plenty of events planned from this weekend to help you with your fire plans.
The RFS’s Get Ready Weekends start on Saturday (14 September) and continue into November, with different brigades hosting their own events throughout the Bega Valley, Eurobodalla, Cooma-Monaro as well as Queanbeyan and Goulburn regions.
These annual events provide valuable information and resources to ensure you’re ready for the upcoming bushfire season.
“Now is the perfect time to get prepared for the summer period ahead before there is a fire and it’s too late,” RFS Far South Coast district coordinator Chris Anderson said.
“It’s a great time to sit down with your family over dinner and discuss your bushfire survival plan and what you’re going to do.”
He said if you had any questions, you could head along to your local brigade during the Get Ready Weekends and get them answered by your local firefighters.
“The main message they will be pushing out is what people can do to prepare themselves, their family and domestic animals,” Mr Anderson said.
Brigade members will also talk about where people can go and what they need to take with them during a bushfire, as well as what fire danger ratings mean.
Mr Anderson said the Far South Coast was currently expecting a normal bushfire season this year.
“We just don’t want people getting complacent,” he said.
“A week of dry weather can dramatically change how a fire will act on the landscape.”

- 19 September: Hoskinstown
- 20 September: Springfield
- 21 September: Bemboka, Bermagui, Bingie, Bodalla, Burragate, Cobargo, Crookwell, Gundaroo, Long Beach, Manton, Marulan, Michelago, Smiths Road, Surf Beach, Tuross Head, Wamboin, Wolumla, Wyndham, Yass River
- 22 September: Back Creek, Broadway, Brogo, Burra, Gundary, Gunning, Mulloon, Oolong, Ridgeway, Tathra, Towamba
- 29 September: Carwoola
- 30 September: Majors Creek
- 4 October: Adaminaby
- 5 October: Captains Flat, Depot Beach, Moruya
- 6 October: Candelo, Kioloa, Mogo
- 26 October: Braidwood
- 2 November: Charleyong
