The weather is starting to warm up (though we could do without the wind) and as we mark the changing of the seasons, life is picking back up again – and our events calendar is no different. Here’s our pick of nine events that will get you out of the house and into the world this week.

The artworks are arranged in the Mitchell and Tillers Galleries, as well as in the courtyard, giving the exhibition’s name a literal meaning. And if one catches your eye, know you don’t need to leave it behind – all the artworks are for sale and most can be taken home on the day.

Have you ever wondered what treasures are behind the doors of the Queanbeyan Museum? As part of History Week, the Queanbeyan Museum is holding an open day on Saturday. Check out their interesting exhibitions that dive into the area’s local history – including their new exhibits on sports and lighting. If the tour inspires you, volunteers will be on hand for a chat about the museum and how you can get involved.

It’s been five years in the making, but a fireworks festival will once again light up the night in Gunning this September. For the first time, the festival will feature two pyromusical shows (fireworks displays set to music), as well as rides and food stalls. The first show will be family-themed, while the second will have a rock’n’roll theme. The night will close with a demonstration of new fireworks the organiser Fireworks Australia has in its toolbox.
Wattle Time Festival
When: 7 September, from 11 am
Where: Albert Park, 18 Bourke Street, Cootamundra

The Wattle Time Festival will return at 11 am in Albert Park, so head out to Cootamundra and be part of history. Attendees can take part in browsing market stalls and live performances. There will also be children’s activities to make sure everyone is entertained, such as face painting, henna tattoos, a mega slide and an air racer/ball balance inflatable game.

To mark the advent of spring, Sandy Place Reserve will be transformed into the site of the Long Beach Spring Fair.
