The future of a CWA branch on the NSW South Coast has been thrown into question, with claims of in-fighting and division.
The news broke publicly when CWA Moruya posted in a community Facebook group that the craft shop and tearooms would be closed indefinitely, without providing more information.
Sources told Region this was because the committee had resigned, and social media reports claimed a president, secretary, and treasurer were needed.
The sources also told Region there was ongoing disagreement between older and newer members on several issues.
CWA Moruya is one of very few CWA branches to still maintain a handicraft shop and tearooms.
Like many other branches across the state, it also fundraises for the community and offers its hall for hire.
News of the craft shop and tearooms’ closure was quickly followed by an announcement that a meeting had been called for Wednesday (14 February), which was eventually moved to today (16 February).
According to an email seen by Region, the Friday meeting will be run by the South Coast Group President, Stephanie Stanhope, and will “discuss the future of the branch”.
Several Moruya residents have since signalled their intention to join their CWA branch so they can attend the meeting.
The Moruya CWA branch did not respond to a request for comment, while the CWA of NSW declined to answer a series of questions put to it by Region.
The meeting will be held at the Moruya CWA rooms, located at 64 Queen Street, from 11 am on Friday (16 February).
