A picture of creative energy set to deck high school hall at annual show of Eurobodalla Shire talent

A high school auditorium will be transformed into a gallery to host an upcoming exhibition of local artwork.

Creative Arts Batemans Bay Inc (CABBI) president Judith Wilkins said the group’s 39th Annual Art and Craft Exhibition provided a space for artists to showcase their creative efforts.

“It’s important to help with the development of the arts within Eurobodalla, to make sure it is accessible to all,” she said.

“We are dedicated to nurturing creativity, fostering artistic talent and enriching the cultural fabric of our community.”

The public will be able to view the exhibition from 22 December, 2023, to 8 January, 2024.

Ms Wilkins said she and the rest of the team were putting the final touches on the display.

“We’ve been organising the printed marketing collateral, making updates on social media platforms and finalising the raffle prizes,” she said.

“But the good news is that we’re well on track for a terrific exhibition opening night!”

Ms Wilkins said the exhibition would be opened by Deputy Mayor Alison Worthington on 22 December at 6 pm, with drinks and nibbles on hand.

There will also be handmade cards available for purchase.

The exhibition will feature textile art, painting, sculpture and craft pieces, all created and brought to life by CABBI members.

Ms Wilkins said the artworks had been made from a range of media and materials, including acrylic and watercolour paints, timber, glass, resin and fabrics.

“We look forward to seeing the wonderful work from the new exhibitors,” she said.

“We’re also very proud to welcome back previous exhibitors, who help make this exhibition a continuing event for the region.”

Ms Wilkins said CABBI members thanked their patron, AC Lawyers, and their sponsors for their support.

“It is a real team effort and much has gone into organising the exhibition,” she said.

“We are also pleased to recognise Batemans Bay High School for providing us the opportunity to exhibit again there this year.”

And for those looking to do some shopping while viewing the exhibition, there is welcome news.

“It is a perfect time of year to go searching for some art-based Christmas gifts,” Ms Wilkins said.

“The exhibition is for the community to enjoy the art and showcase local artists to the wider community – they can purchase any items they see.”

Since the organisation’s establishment in 1999, Ms Wilkins said, CABBI had worked to support artists across Eurobodalla Shire.

“We are a bit of a household name within the local art community and also the local business community,” she said.

“As an organisation, we have built great partnerships with people and we continue to receive support from our sponsors and the wider community.”

To support local artists, the organisation runs workshops and educational programs, and hosts several exhibitions throughout the year.

“CABBI’s vision is working collaboratively within the community,” Ms Wilkins said.

“That means engaging with the community and fostering relationships.”

CABBI’s Annual Art and Craft Exhibition will be held from 22 December to 8 January in the Batemans Bay High School auditorium, 2 George Bass Drive, Batehaven.

It will be open from 10 am to 4 pm daily (closed Christmas Day).
