Boaters have been urged to keep a weathered eye on the conditions with a strong wind warning issued for the Eden Coast.
Marine Rescue NSW Commissioner Alex Barrell said boaters should be wary when heading out to sea in the area.
“It’s important with this strong weather warning on the Eden Coast that boaters are checking the conditions before they leave, and most importantly continue to check the conditions throughout the day,” he said.
The Bureau of Meteorology has predicted winds along the coast will shift south to south-westerly, ranging from 15 to 25 knots, late Wednesday (19 April) morning.
Winds are predicted to be even stronger, up to around 30 knots, during the afternoon and evening.
It’s as a front is moving across the area, bringing a fresh southerly change to our waters, spreading north on Thursday.
Given the changing conditions throughout the day, Commissioner Barrell urged all boaters to take care.
“Quite often when you leave the boat ramp, the conditions are much more benign than they are later in the day,” he said.
“So it’s very important when you’re out, particularly on the open water, that you’re constantly checking the weather conditions, you’re checking the weather app, and you’re checking in with [your local] Marine Rescue base to make sure you’re right across the changing conditions.”
Boaters can log on with their local Marine Rescue base before heading out as another way to stay safe on the water.
