A body has been recovered after police were told a woman had been swept away by floodwaters east of Cooma.

NSW Police said emergency services were called to Tuross Road, near Countegany Road, west of Tuross Falls, about 2:30 am on Friday (10 December) over reports a man and a woman were trapped in floodwaters in their car.

Police were told when the woman got out of the car she was swept away by the water.

They and volunteers from the NSW State Emergency Service (SES) began a search. The man was found a short distance away from the car and did not need medical treatment.

However, about 7:15 am a woman’s body was found downstream and recovered by the SES. Police said the body is yet to be formally identified, but is believed to be that of a 37-year-old woman.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.
