A Goulburn man has been jailed after he breached lockdown restrictions by repeatedly travelling to COVID-19 hotspots.
Joshua Leslie Rudd, 36, will spend months behind bars after he was sentenced over the breaches as well as a drug offence.
A spokesperson for NSW Police said Rudd breached the public health orders three times: twice by travelling to hotspot zones in Greater Sydney and once by not isolating after travelling to a declared area.
He appeared before the Goulburn Local Court on Wednesday (18 August), where Magistrate Geraldine Beattie sentenced him to nine months’ jail with a non-parole period of five months.
He had been charged with three counts of not complying with a noticed direction regarding COVID-19 as well as one count of possessing a prohibited drug.
Magistrate Beattie also revoked a community corrections order Rudd had received in July.
Due to the non-parole period Rudd will be released from jail in January 2022. Residential drug rehabilitation was recommended to be instated when he is released on parole.
