All properties in the community of Potato Point, on the NSW South Coast, will be connected to town sewer services to replace existing septic tanks and significantly reduce the risk of environmental harm by late next year.
Eurobodalla Shire Council has awarded the contract to construct the first stage of the sewerage plant to Fewster Brothers Contracting.
The first stage of the Potato Point Sewerage Scheme will be the construction of a new sewage pump station on Potato Point Road – next to the Potato Point Rural Fire Service shed – and a 6.7km underground sewer pipeline from the new pump station to the Bodalla Sewage Treatment Plant.
A new water main will also be provided to ensure greater reliability for the village’s water supply.
Commuters will see heavy machinery working along Potato Point Road during the next six to eight months, particularly in the vicinity of the RFS shed.
The second stage of the project is expected to begin in early 2021 and will construct the underground pipelines to connect each household to the new sewage pump station.
The Potato Point Sewerage Scheme is expected to be operational by late 2022. It was identified in Eurobodalla Shire Council’s long-term water and sewer strategic plan, the Integrated Water Cycle Management Strategy, and is funded by a $3.22 million grant from the NSW Government’s Restart NSW program.
