A man will face court today charged over the alleged attempted murder of his housemate west of Eden at the weekend.
Just after 6 pm on Saturday (August 3), emergency services attended a rural property at Pericoe where two men – aged 28 and 24 had been struck by a utility. The older man was travelling on a motorbike and the younger on a quad bike.
“The ute was located rolled on Fulligans Road, and it was believed the driver – a 50-year-old man – had fled into dense bushland,” police report.
“Police were told the pair had been involved in a dispute with their 50-year-old male housemate and as they were escorting him off the property, he allegedly deliberately drove the ute at their vehicles.
“The 28-year-old man was treated at the scene for chest injuries before being flown to St George Hospital. The 24-year-old man was treated for minor injuries.”
As reported earlier, police believe the diver of the ute to be, 50-year-old Shane Russell Smith.
Officers from South Coast Police District, with the assistance of PolAir and NSW State Emergency Service, conducted an extensive land and air search for Mr Smith, issuing a public appeal for information on Wednesday.
Since that time and following extensive investigations, “the man was arrested at Bega Police Station about 3.20 pm yesterday (August 8).”
“The 50-year-old man was charged with cause wounding/grievous bodily harm to person with intent to murder, dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm-drive manner dangerous, and drive recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous.”
He has been refused bail to appear at Moruya Local Court later today (August 9).
