Malua Bay residents will have an opportunity to view plans for a $1.275 million upgrade of the beach reserve at a community barbecue on Saturday 28 May.
Eurobodalla Council will seek feedback on a proposed upgrade of the Albert Bamman Memorial Park at the Malua Bay Beach Reserve to better meet the needs of people of all ages and abilities.
The proposal includes removing the ageing amenity building and replacing it with a new facility located closer to Kuppa Avenue. It will include male, female and accessible toilets, showers and change rooms.
Other key improvements will include a playground upgrade, new and improved picnic facilities, exercise equipment and a new wheelchair-accessible viewing platform. Signage will recognise the reserve’s heritage and provide community information.
The large picnic shelter will be replaced and wheelchair accessible picnic tables and barbecues installed courtesy of a $100,000 grant from the Lions District 201N2 Disaster Recovery Fund.
A connecting pathway around the reserve will improve access to all the park’s features, particularly for older residents and people with disability, while landscaping will beautify the area.
The ‘Harry Chapman’ memorial will be relocated to a new memorial garden within the park.
A council spokesperson said the community barbecue will be held at the reserve on Saturday 28 May from 10 am to 2 pm.
Residents will be invited to view the concept plan and tell council staff what they like about it, what could be improved and what they’d like to see in the play space.
Based on community feedback received through Council’s Recreation and Open Space Strategy process, a draft concept plan was developed in 2019.
The draft plan helped secure the funding from the Australian Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program and the NSW Government’s Everyone Can Play program.
Council involved the Lions Club, Rotary and local surf life-saving club in the planning.
Those who can’t attend the barbecue can view the plan on Council’s website.
