A man and woman have been charged after weapons, drugs, and cash were allegedly seized during a vehicle stop in the Riverina.
About 9:15 pm on Saturday (27 December 2025) police patrolling the Olympic Highway, Cootamundra, pulled over a blue hatchback for a random breath test.
Officers attached to Riverina Police District spoke with the female driver and a male passenger, who allegedly refused to provide details.
Police searched the vehicle and allegedly found a pistol, ammunition, two knives, 45 grams of methylamphetamine, cannabis, cash and four phones.
The pair was arrested and taken to Cootamundra Police Station.
The driver – a 32-year-old woman – was charged with possess unregistered firearm-pistol, not keep firearm safely-prohibited firearm, acquire ammunition for firearm without licence, supply prohibited drug indictable and commercial quantity, possess prohibited drug, and custody of a knife in a public place.
The passenger – a 47-year-old man – was charged with possess unregistered firearm-pistol, acquire pistol-subject to firearms prohibition order, acquire ammunition for firearm without licence/permit, acquire ammunition subject to prohibition order, not keep firearm safely-prohibited firearm, supply prohibited drug indictable and commercial quantity, custody of knife in public place – subsequent offence, possess prohibited drug, possess/attempt to, prescribed restricted substance and deal with property proceeds of crime.
Both were refused bail to appear before Wagga Wagga Local Court on 14 January 2026.
