Member for Gilmore, Ann Sudmalis has helped get significant Eurobodalla roadworks underway before jetting off to the United Nations.
The federally funded upgrade to the intersection of the Princes Highway and Hector McWilliam Drive at Tuross Head is expected to be completed before the end of the year
Mrs Sudmalis says the Tuross Head Progress Association helped negotiate funding for the project which will improve road safety.
“The works will be extensive and will include the creation of a dedicated left-turn lane from the Princes Highway onto Hector McWilliam Drive as well as a new sealed commuter car park to replace the existing car park,” Mrs Sudmalis says.
“Other works include the installation of a concrete median and moving the stop line forward on Hector McWilliam Drive, widening the bus bay and extending it to the south. This will allow buses to park further away from the intersection, improving sight distance.”
It’s hoped the upgrade will also save travel time for local drivers and visitors; during holiday times the turn into and out of the popular tourist town can be a highway choke point and safety risk.
Access to the new carpark will be via Hector McWilliam Drive only, access from the Princes Highway will be removed. Commuters will still be able to access the old commuter carpark during the works.

Lane closures and a 40 km/h speed limit will be in place during work hours and may affect travel times. Motorists should allow up to five minutes extra travel time.
Weather permitting the job will be done by late 2018 and will be carried out on weekdays between 7 am and 6 pm and on Saturdays between 8 am and 1 pm.
Other projects being rolled out under the Commonwealth’s Eurobodalla Roads Upgrade Package, include a roundabout at George Bass Drive and Tomakin Road to improve traffic flow and new traffic lights at the intersection of Beach Road and Perry Street.
Turning the first sod on the Turros works was one of the last appointments for Ms Sudmalis in the southern end of her electorate before heading for New York.
The Member for Gilmore is leaving parliament at the next election but for the next three months will represent Australia at the United Nations General Assembly along with retiring Labor MP, Jenny Macklin.
Ms Sudmalis says with the support of her Nowra based staff she is confident she will still be able to represent the people of her electorate effectively while overseas.
