A two-year-old child and a 77-year-old adult are among the confirmed cases of COVID-19 from Young, with five patients now in Wagga Hospital, one in intensive care.
Murrumbidgee Local Health District spokesman Professor Len Bruce said the wide age range demonstrated the Delta variant was a disease of all people, not just the young or old.
Prof Bruce said a further three cases were under investigation but the region’s health system was coping well.
He congratulated Young Hospital staff on their response to the crisis but warned people were still presenting too late for testing. Prof Bruce appealed to anyone with even the mildest of symptoms to get tested.
A medical ward at Wagga Wagga Base Hospital has now been turned into a 30-bed “hot” COVID ward, with a further “amber” 30-bed ward with fully PPE-protected staff available for anyone who tests negative but is transferred in from a hot spot.
There have been nine new cases reported in Southern NSW to 8 pm last night:
- Three new cases in Goulburn – all are linked to known cases;
- Three new cases in Yass – all are linked to known cases;
- Two new cases in Queanbeyan – are linked to known cases;
- One new case in the Upper Lachlan Shire that is under investigation.
This brings the total cases in SNSWLHD to 85 since the start of the current outbreak in June.
NSW recorded 1022 locally acquired cases yesterday, with 10 deaths. A full list of case locations and potential exposure sites is available here.
From noon today (21 September), children and teenagers aged 18 years and under are able to create a “friends bubble” to allow home visits provided the adults in their homes are fully vaccinated, under an easing of restrictions for school holidays.
The visits are subject to the following conditions:
- Each child is allowed to have two designated friends come to their house. These two friends must always be the same, creating a three-person “friends bubble”;
- All people older than 18 years in all the households must be fully vaccinated;
- The friends must reside within 5km of each other or in the same LGA; and
- If parents/carers are dropping children off, they must not stay to interact with other parents or carers.
