Gail Nichols ‘Viewpoint’ at Suki & Hugh until 11 August
Award winning Mongarlowe artist Gail Nichols solo exhibition at Suki & Hugh Gallery includes a striking series of wall rugs made using traditional rug hooking techniques. The works depict abstracted landscape imagery inspired by the artists’ extensive travels in Australia and abroad.
Gail Nichols is recognised internationally for her innovative approach to soda vapour glazed ceramics. Through extensive research, leading to PhD at Monash University in 2002, Gail developed her unique vapour glaze aesthetic and technical approach to materials and firing.
In 2014 after a successful 30-year professional ceramics career, Gail turned her main art practice toward textiles.
Gail’s textile work is represented in the Canberra Museum and Gallery permanent collection and in private collections. Her ceramic work is represented in the National Gallery of Australia and other public and private collections internationally.

Pop into the 1890s heritage cottage in Bungendore which is the home for Manon & Moss, a boutique store showcasing a beautifully curated gathering of pieces from across the globe.
Alex Burnett has been an importer of garden and architectural antiques from France and the UK since 2013 and has recently opened to the public at 14 Malbon Street.
The concept store is dedicated to an appreciation of things beautiful, unique and luxurious. International brands you would not expect to see assembled in a store outside Melbourne, Sydney or Canberra, are represented in this beautiful setting which includes a courtyard garden.
Colognes and cosmetics from the World’s oldest continuous pharmaceutical company, dating from 1612 – Officina Profumo – Farmaceutica Santa Maria Novella from Florence, sit alongside candles and home fragrances from Cire Trudon, a French candlemaker and the oldest wax-producing factory worldwide.
There are large wall canvases from the UK, textiles from Hale Mercantile and Bemboka (NZ), floor rugs from Cadry’s and Dash & Albert, lighting from Roger Pradier (France), Il Fanale (Italy), Elstead (UK) and Royal Botania (Belgium) and furniture pieces from MCM House. Hand-made garden furniture from Fermob of France and stone and marble from France and the UK.
Manon & Moss have just been appointed as the Australian contact for Redfields English Leadworks, who are makers of lead urns, house signs and statues. They are one of a handful of UK companies who continue to make products seen in some of the oldest gardens in Europe, applying the same techniques used for centuries to make them.

Kate Carruthers ’Ink & oil’ at Altenburg & Co until 3rd August
Prolific Braidwood painter Kate Carruthers is exhibiting a new series of ink on paper works alongside her large oil landscape and skyscapes at Altenburg & Co.

Batemans Bay Orchid & Foliage Society Winter Show, Batemans Bay Soldiers Club – Friday until 6pm and Saturday until 3pm, free entry.
The winter show is an annual event held in the auditorium at the Soldiers Club. There will also be a number of ferns and other foliage plants.
As well as the orchids on display, there will be sales tables with orchid and other plants and posies available to purchase. These include flowering and non-flowering plants. Sometimes there are pots, fertilizers and other equipment for the orchid grower.
Potting demonstrations are held at 11am and 1pm each day. An experienced grower, who is happy to speak about orchid growing and answer any questions, conducts these.
Photography is encouraged. This enables the viewers to share their love of these beautiful flowers with friends and family.

Like Chalk and Cheese at The Bas until 4 August.
Friends Lesley Whale and Keedah Throssell share common interests but their divergent modes of expression.
‘Like Chalk and Cheese’ is a celebration of difference. These two very dissimilar artists have collaborated to produce this cage-rattling and quirky representation of the world.
The artists share many common interests despite very different backgrounds and training – each with their own unique expression, approach and art practice, reflected in divergent subject choices. This rich tapestry of creative material is sure to provoke in each viewer a range of responses.
Labels do not apply here. The show is unique in its unpredictability – the works are as different as chalk and cheese.
Like Chalk and Cheese is the sixth exhibition at The Bas since it opened in late February 2019, and the third to feature local artists.
