A special occasion this week for 95-year-old, Yallambee Lodge resident Tibor Olgay.
On Monday, Mr Olgay played host to Thailand’s Ambassador to Australia and officials from the Royal Thailand Embassy.
Thailand Ambassador, Nantana Sivakua made the trip to Cooma to personally thank Mr Olgay who designed the Royal Thailand Embassy in Canberra, 48 years ago.
“We are very grateful for the work Mr Olgay did,” Ms Sivakua says.
“The embassy has been home to 15 ambassadors and their families. It has provided myself and my family [with] a happy time living there. We love the building.
“A team from Bangkok has been visiting Thai embassies across the world, and this is one of their favourites.”
Mr Olgay, a highly regarded architect, enjoyed morning tea with Ms Sivakua while reminiscing about the embassy’s design.
“This is one of my happiest days,” Mr Olgay says.
They were joined by Royal Thailand Embassy officials, Deputy Head of Mission Ms Thippawan Supamitkitja, Minister Counsellor Mr Vathayudh Vichankaiyakij, and a friend of Mr Olgay’s, Tony Eastaway.
