Stage two of the renovation and rejuvenation of Pambula Hospital starts next month with the promise of a more comfortable environment for patients and staff.
Stage 1 last year included a new main entry and reception, a refurbished Assessment, Treatment and Care Clinic, treatment spaces, bathroom facilities, and an exercise room.
Pambula Hospital Acting Nurse Manager Kelly Jurd says, “The initial work has really improved the hospital, providing a better design and functionality to improve the way patients are cared for.”
“Stage 1 also provided patients with a parents’ room and a kids’ corner near the new waiting area as well as an additional toilet facility,” Ms Judd says.
This final stage which will start in February is worth $1 million and builds on the $1.6 million invested earlier.
On completion of the refurbishment, patients and staff will return to new wards which are expected to be completed by May.
During the works, patients will be temporarily relocated however the hospital’s clinic will remain open.
“The refurbishment work can create a lot of noise and dust, so it makes sense to move our patients to a more appropriate setting,” Ms Judd says.
“Patient safety and care is our number one priority, we will be temporarily relocating our patients to South East Regional Hospital [in Bega] as an interim measure while the works are underway.”

The Treatment, Assessment and Care Clinic at Pambula Hospital will stay open seven days a week from 9 am to 5 pm – with the last patient’s seen at 4:30 pm, during the Stage 2 renovations.
Patients attending the Clinic are either assessed, treated and discharged by a Nurse Practitioner; referred to a local GP for further assessment or treatment; or transferred to South East Regional Hospital (SERH) for treatment.
Patients seeking care for serious illness and injuries should go directly to the Emergency Department at SERH, Virginia Drive, Bega.
Patients with life-threatening conditions should contact an ambulance immediately on Triple O (000). NSW Ambulance takes all emergency cases directly to SERH.
