‘Dreambeyan’ locals, or Queanbeyan-Palerang residents, as they tend to go by, have been asked to share their vision of the region for the next 20 years to help the Council formulate the Towards 2042 – Community Strategic Plan.
Until 31 July, the Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council is looking to consult with community members through a variety of forums.
The project will explore community priorities for the next 20 years through Council-facilitated discussion in-person, online and over the phone.
It’s then envisaged that the ideas, opinions and outcomes of these discussions will become part of the region’s Community Strategic Plan.
The five strategic pillars of the plan are community, choice, character, connection and capability – although residents are asked whether they agree with these categories or not.
Council plays a custodial role in terms of imitating and preparing the plan. However, once it has been drawn up, many partners, such as state agencies and community groups will be responsible for its implementation.

Mayor Tim Overall said he is looking forward to collaborating with the community on what he described as a critical project.
“Towards 2042 asks us to consider what we love about where we live, what we’d like our future to look like, and how we will get there. Together, we can build a vision of the future that respects our unique region and lifestyle
“This is a great opportunity to share your ideas and influence our future. It’s your chance to tell us what you, your friends, family and the wider community will need to grow and thrive towards 2042,” he said.
Drop-in discussion sessions had originally been scheduled for various locations and dates but due to COVID-19 restrictions, all but the last one had to be cancelled.
There is one remaining session to be held on 24 July at the Braidwood Markets from 8 am to 1 pm, however, the COVID-19 situation in the state means things can change rapidly.
There is an online survey that residents can complete with hard copies available at council customer service centres and libraries. while colouring kits will be shared with local schools.
The survey is designed to take about six minutes to complete and can be responded to either as an individual or as a community.
Six key areas were covered in the previous Community Strategic Plan 2018-2028 including asset management, community, development, economic development, environment and integrated planning.
Residents are encouraged to read this plan before undertaking the survey.
