A $30 million development that’s expected to create around 170 jobs in the Goulburn area is progressing through Goulburn Mulwaree Council.
The council’s staff are working on a planning proposal that will allow the new residential aged care facility, proposed on a site at Ducks Lane and Lillkar Road, southwest of the city, to go ahead.
Signature Care has asked for an amendment to the 2009 Goulburn Mulwaree Local Environmental Plan to allow its development of the 144-bed residential facility on a lot between the Coles Distribution Centre and large lot of residential land at Run-O-Waters.
This week, council voted to draft the proposal which will need to be submitted to the NSW Department of Planning, Industry and Environment for endorsement.
The resolution paves the way for work to begin, however the final determination of the matter will be subject to community consultation.
Council is seeking authorisation from the department to use delegation for the planning proposal.
Goulburn Mulwaree Council Mayor Bob Kirk said it is pleasing to see progress occurring on this exciting development for the region.
“It’s great to have the project progressing to this stage after quite a long search for a suitable site,” he said.
“Council is very supportive of further aged care in the region, which is necessary for our population but will also generate around 170 new jobs.”
The aged care facility is expected to include a hair salon, library, craft and games area among other features.
The 144 bed spaces for Goulburn are funded under the Australian Government’s Aged Care Approvals Round for 2018-2019.
