A policeman was taken to hospital after being assaulted in Cooma over the weekend.
At about 12:40 am on Saturday (10 April), officers attached to Monaro Police District were conducting patrols in Cooma when they saw a group of people congregated on the road outside licensed premises on Sharp Street, Cooma.
When they began moving the group off the road, a 23-year-old man became aggressive and allegedly threw punches at the officers.
Police attempted to arrest the man but, during a struggle, he allegedly punched a male constable in the face and pushed a male senior constable to the ground.
Onlookers helped police restrain the man. He was then taken to Cooma Police Station where he was charged with behaving in an offensive manner in a public place, three counts of assaulting a police officer in execution of duty, two counts of resisting police in execution of duty, and possessing a prohibited drug.
He was granted conditional bail to appear in Cooma Local Court on Wednesday, 5 May.
The senior constable was taken to Cooma Hospital for treatment but has since been released.
