UPDATED: South Coast police say the investigation into the discovery of a body in bushland just off a busy suburban road south of Batemans Bay is in its infancy, but the circumstances are not believed to be suspicious.
Rumours are circulating about the discovery, including that it was linked to a major police operation in Batemans Bay, but that is not believed to be the case.
WEDNESDAY: Police have begun an investigation after a passerby reportedly found a person’s body in bushland south of Batemans Bay.
Officers were called to the scene at George Bass Drive in Lilli Pilli, which is about 10 km southeast of the Bay, around 10:30 am on Wednesday morning (20 March), a NSW Police spokesperson said.
The police had received reports that a body was found in bushes by a passerby.
“Officers attached to South Coast Police District responded and established a crime scene,” the spokesperson said.
“Police are investigating the circumstances and encouraging anyone with information to come forward and contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.”
