There is nothing we can do about the mercury, but we can put together a list of events, activities and festivals to take your mind off the weather – and to feed your mind as well as your stomach. Here are our top nine picks of events and activities to enjoy.
Multiple days
3D Printing 101: Basics @ Bermagui Library
When: 28 June, noon to 1 pm; 6 July, 11 am to noon

3D printing involves creating three dimensional objects by layering materials – such as plastics, composites or bio-materials – into a design using a 3D printing machine. Head along to this workshop and learn all about the technique – from start to finish! Participants will learn about different types of 3D printing, open-source technology behind the technology and basic modelling tools for creating objects. This workshop is suitable for adults and children aged six years and older (all children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult, however).
A Plethora of Postcards
When: 28 June to 23 July, 10 am to 4 pm (Monday to Friday), 10 am to 1 pm (Saturdays), and 10 am to 3 pm (29 June only)

Cost: Free entry.
When was the last time you took a closer look at a postcard? This annual exhibition sees artworks painted onto the small rectangles, with a variety of designs to catch your eye. Which will be your favourite?
Infamous the Show
When: 28 June to 13 July (each Friday and Saturday), shows from 7:30 pm
Where: Goulburn Showground, 47 Braidwood Road, Goulburn
Cost: Tickets start at $62.50 and are available via Ticketek.
This is a circus with a difference! This traveling cabaret cirque show is coming to Goulburn for a series of shows set to make you laugh – and maybe even blush. The show experience also features snacks and some alcoholic beverages. It’s for adults only, and ID is required for entry.
Earth Poems
When: 29 June to 28 July, 10 am to 2 pm (Monday and Friday), 10 am to 4 pm (Saturdays) and 11 am to 3 pm (Sundays)
Where: Suki & Hugh Gallery, 38a Gibraltar Street, Bungendore
Cost: Free entry.
Head along for Susie Dureau’s fifth solo exhibition at Suki & Hugh Gallery, called Earth Poems. For her artworks, Susie transformed sound recordings into spectrograms to visually represent sound frequencies. Ms Dureau will be at the gallery on Saturday (29 June) from 3 to 5 pm for the official opening.
July Kids Snow Festival
When: 4 to 21 July, events at various times
Where: Various locations at Thredbo Resort, Thredbo
Cost: Depends on event; see program.
Send the kids off to get some quiet and know they’ll be looked after in this multi-day festival of activities! Movie nights, a special kids flare run, games, an astronomy presentation, Alpine Coaster rides, delicious s’mores, fireworks and – it’s Thredbo during snow season, after all – plenty of chances to show off your skills on your skis and snowboards.
Sunday
David Bridie performance
When: 30 June, from 3 pm (doors open from 2 pm)
Where: Indoor Windsong Pavilion, Four Winds, 17 Four Winds Road, Barragga Bay
Cost: Tickets cost between $35 and $45 (with children under 16 having free entry) and are available online.
David Bridie will head to the Far South Coast for a performance at Four Winds. Attendees will hear him perform songs from his extensive catalogue of solo work and songs of bands Not Drowning, Waving and My Friend The Chocolate Cake. While the show starts at 3 pm, the team from Sapphire Coast Eats will be bringing their woodfire pizza truck on-site to serve fresh, delicious pizzas before the performance and during interval. Orders must be made in advance from 1:30 pm.
The RAG and Katherine Holmes tribute concert
When: 30 June, 2 to 5 pm
Where: Yass Soldiers Memorial Hall, 82-94 Comur Street, Yass
Cost: Tickets cost between $45 and $50 (with children under 16 having free entry) and are available via Humanitix.
The Goldner String Quartet (in association with Musica Viva) will be taking to the stage for a performance of Mozart’s No.4 in C major K.157, Shostakovich’s Quartet No.8 in C minor Op.110 and Beethoven’s Quartet in E minor, Op.59 No.2. Head along to Yass Soldiers Memorial Hall to finish your weekend with a treat for your ears.
Tuesday
Woodfired sourdough workshop
When: 2 July, 3 to 5:30 pm
Where: Moruya Library, Vulcan Street, Moruya
Cost: Free entry, though registration via eventbrite is necessary.
Pizza is always a good meal, right? Participants in this workshop will learn how to make a sourdough pizza in a woodfired pizza oven. The workshop is open to anyone aged 12 and above, no matter their skill level (or experience with baking). Attendees aged between 12 and 15 must be accompanied by a participating adult.
TINA: The Ultimate Tribute to the Queen of Rock n Roll
When: 2 July, 8 to 10:30 pm
Where: Griffith Regional Theatre, 1 Neville Place, Griffith
Cost: Tickets cost between $43 and $72 and are available via the theatre’s website.
Whether you are a lifetime fan of the late Tina Turner or just enjoy banging out the Nutbush every chance you get, this is the show for you. This tribute show features hits from the 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s – ranging from Simply the Best and What’s Love Got to Do With It to River Deep Mountain High and more – with Caroline Borole.
