Friday starts the celebrations with a twilight sail on the Clyde River from 5 pm, followed by a relaxing ‘raft-up’ flotilla under the stars at the new local jetty. Saturday has a full day of family-friendly activities, including open water races and a barbecue on the foreshore. The day culminates in a 50th birthday dinner at the clubhouse, where members and previous club members can share and record their stories. Lastly, Sunday features off-the-beach sailing at Coila Lake.

Cost: Tickets cost $30 (plus booking fee) and are available via Humanitix.
If the arrival of spring has you thinking about seeing some flowers, this is the perfect opportunity. The Tumbarumba Spring Flower Festival is celebrating its silver jubilee, 25 years after the seeds were planted in a video store.
In the years since, the show has grown from a flower show to include open gardens, giving the public access to private and public gardens for two days of the year.
This year is the largest yet, spanning seven extensive country gardens, a high school garden, new town gardens, and a garden lovingly tended by an octogenarian. Several gardens are also making a comeback, having not been open to the public for at least a decade. The festival also features popular sculpture and photography competitions.

Where: Rusten House Art Centre, 87 Collett Street, Queanbeyan
Cost: Free entry.
Rusten House Art Centre presents Alison Oberg’s A Sense of Place, an exploration of her work that intersects the natural world and creativity in practice. Her use of nature in the micro, the world of individual leaves and flowers, scales all the way up to the macro, incorporating landscapes and coastal silhouettes into her work.
Sunday
Diwali Mela Lantern Festival
When: 26 October, 6 to 10 pm
Where: Waniassa Park, 2 Waniassa Street, Queanbeyan

If you’re looking for a night of good food, cultural performances and (of course) lights, look no further than this year’s Queanbeyan Diwali festival. There’ll be dancing performed onstage, as well as a luminous celebration of life that Diwali is famous for. Come get involved and see what multicultural Queanbeyan has to offer.
The night will finish with a parade from 8:30 pm. Everyone is invited for a short walk with their own battery-operated light or lantern. For those who don’t own one, attendees can make their own at a free workshop running from 6 pm.
Halloween at the Yass Artisan Markets

Where: Yass Railway Museum, 3 Crago Street, Yass

After some spooky fun? The Yass Artisan Markets have put on a themed market that will knock your socks off and have you screaming (in joy) at the stallholders and Halloween activities for people of all ages to enjoy.

Where: Bungendore Showground, 71 Mathews Lane, Bungendore
Cost: Tickets cost from $7 to $12 and can be purchased online until midnight on Saturday (27 September), or at the gate at the slightly higher price of between $10 and $15.
It’s been a long wait, but an agricultural show is coming back to Bungendore. After the show was postponed between 2020 and 2023, this year’s Bungendore Show will feature several competitions for the town’s residents to enter their livestock, produce and other creations. Visitors will also see equestrian and sheep shows, while combatants will be put to the test in a tug-of-war competition.
The young and young at heart will also be entertained by a range of demonstrations and performances. There’ll be a jumping castle, dancers, a pet parade, activities led by the local Scouts, an obstacle course and a snake display.

Two Strong Hearts: A tribute to John Farnham & Olivia Newton-John will have audiences listening to the best of the famous singers. Together, Anita Spring and Jeff Fallon will perform hits from the “Whispering Jack” album, songs (and dance moves) from Grease, as well as duets the two legendary musicians performed together. Head along, but don’t be surprised if you feel the urge to get up and dance to the music!
