The main works contractor for the Eurobodalla Regional Hospital has been announced.
Multiplex Constructions has been awarded the contract to deliver the $330 million project, which will provide the community with a range of expanded and contemporary health services close to home.
Member for Bega Dr Michael Holland welcomed the next step in the project.
“I am so pleased we have reached another major milestone in our efforts to deliver the new Eurobodalla Regional Hospital as a Level 4 health facility,” he said.
“This is on top of the recent budget announcement which will deliver an additional $70 million investment towards the project, which will ensure that it remains on track.
“With the main works contractor appointed to build the new hospital, the community will see increased activity on site, including heavy machinery, in preparation for the start of main works construction in the coming weeks.”
Work to prepare the site will include installation of site sheds, site set-up and establishment, construction of erosion and sediment basins and an ancillary road to allow for construction access.
Clinicians, staff and the community have been involved in the planning and design process.
The work is expected to support more than 600 direct jobs during construction and hundreds of indirect jobs over the life of the project.
The new $330 million Eurobodalla Regional Hospital is expected to include an emergency department with a larger capacity than the current combined emergency services of Moruya and Batemans Bay hospitals, paediatric and maternity services, increased access to chemotherapy treatments and renal dialysis services, surgical and operating theatres, a day-stay surgical unit, a special care nursery and mental health beds for those short-term admissions.
It is also set to feature an eight-bed intensive care unit (ICU) and close observation unit (COU) in the first intensive care service available in the Eurobodalla region, and a new magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) service and a simulation laboratory.
Health Minister Ryan Park said that once the hospital was constructed, it would serve the wider South Coast.
“The NSW Government is delivering $70 million in additional funding towards the brand-new, purpose-built, $330 million Level 4 hospital to support the needs of the entire Eurobodalla Shire community from Narooma to Batemans Bay,” he said.
“The new hospital will serve the South Coast region for generations to come, providing more health services than are currently available at both the Moruya and Batemans Bay hospitals combined.”
