It’s not mandatory to like dogs to write for Region Media – but it sure helps. The head of HR, Mr Smiggle, is pictured bottom right. Photo: Screenshot.

It takes a special kind of person to write for About Regional.

For a start, it helps if you like dogs. Well dogs, cats, horses, alpacas, goats, ducks and chooks. Basically any sort of animal – except snakes. We tend to tolerate snakes rather than like them.

But more importantly, you need to be really well connected. We are not talking Scotty from marketing, or Gina Rinehart, or even Shaynna Blaze from The Block.

By connected, we mean you need to know your community. Like, really know your community. What are issues that matter? Who are the people who make things tick? Who are the local legends that need to be celebrated?
