Eurobodalla Shire Council is set to begin its annual hard waste collection next week. Kerbside collections will begin at Tilba and North Narooma on Monday, 20 July, and finish at South Durras in late September.
Eurobodalla Shire Council’s waste services divisional manger, Amanda Jones, said the hard waste collection includes fridges, microwaves, rolls of carpet, garden tools and furniture.
“Households can put out up to two cubic metres of those bulky items too big for their bins,” she said.
“We’re asking residents to separate metal items from other items such as furniture. One truck will collect metal for recycling, a second will collect all other items except fridges, freezers and air-conditioning units, which are collected by a third truck.”
Ms Jones requested residents put out their hard waste items just prior to collection in their area.
“That keeps everyone safe and neighbourhoods looking better,” she said.
Ms Jones added that televisions, computers, monitors and printers would not be collected, but could be taken to one of council’s waste management facilities free of charge at any time.
“Other bulky items that won’t be collected and should be taken to a waste facility include mattresses, tyres, motor vehicle parts, vegetation and building materials,” she said.
“Importantly, we won’t be collecting burnt waste material. It’s been a tough year for all and residents can take their bushfire debris to waste facilities at Surf Beach or Brou, with loads up to two cubic metres accepted at the Moruya transfer station.
“If you haven’t already, you can still take a trailer load of burnt household waste and vegetation to either Surf Beach or Brou [waste facilities] for free.”
Chemicals and hazardous materials will not be collected in hard waste pickup, but paint, gas bottles and oil can be taken to council’s chemical cleanout collection in September, or to the Community Recycling Centre at Surf Beach at any time.
