Project 8, an inspiring music and digital media program is coming to Bega, Eden and Cobargo starting with the fast approaching Easter school holidays.
Coordinator Gabrielle Powell, says the upcoming workshops will cater for the next generation of creative spirits and are geared towards promoting positive messages about staying safe and having fun.
“The best alcohol and drug harm minimisation messages are created by young people themselves,” Ms Powell says.
“We will be focusing on increasing resilience in local youth by helping them to create new messages.”
This series of free workshops for young people aged between 14 and 20 will use music, digital technology, and video, and will be led by a number of established local artists.
The first introductory workshop is Thursday, April 18 at the Bega TAFE campus.
Led by Bega Valley singer-songwriter Jazz Williams, digital artist Scott Baker and videographer Kyle Wilson, along with a number of special guests, participants will be invited to create a pitch to present to their peers on healthy lifestyles, partying safely, and harm minimisation using song, digital technology, photography and video media.
Aside from the health and wellbeing focus, the workshops are an opportunity for young people to grow their creativity and team skills, as well as their resume.
Project 8 is made possible by a grant of $21,900 from the Australian Government through the Alcohol and Drug Foundation and is being led by South East Arts and the Local Drug Action Team.
There will be a series of eight workshops over the year, run in Bega, Eden and Cobargo during school holidays in April, July and September/October.
