Local artists are being invited to explore the potential offered by the waste and recyclables generated on the Snowy Monaro.
Repurposed materials from the shire’s waste facilities are being offered to artists for use in the 2019 Lake Light Sculpture exhibition this Easter in Jindabyne.
Snowy Monaro Regional Council is donating a range of suitable materials to artists including:
- Scrap steel;
- Timber offcuts;
- Pallets;
- Milk crates;
- Furniture;
- Crockery, cutlery, knick-knacks;
- Any other general waste materials.
Council’s Resource and Waste Education Officer, Belinda Ingram, says artists will be surprised and inspired by what’s available.
“Some of this stuff can be turned into something really beautiful that extends the life of the material and challenges our idea of what is waste,” she says.
“Jindabyne and Cooma landfills are the biggest and will have more of a variety of materials, and there is the scrap mart shop at Cooma and Jindabyne as well.”

Please include:
- A list of all materials you are seeking;
- Your contact details so Council can arrange a time to view and collect materials;
- Proof of registration to the Lakelight Sculpture event.
Lake Light Sculpture runs April 19 to 22 on the shores of Lake Jindabyne and attracts around 20,000 spectators each year. The total prizes pool is $28,800 with individual prizes ranging between $10,000 and $550. Entries are now open, check the website for details.
