A former political candidate has faced court after an alleged altercation in the Snowy-Monaro town of Nimmitabel.
The accusations against Andrew Evan Thaler, a former candidate for the federal seat of Eden-Monaro, were heard in the Cooma Local Court today (22 May).
Earlier this month, NSW Police said officers arrived at Bombala Street in Nimmitabel at around 2 pm on 5 May and spoke to a number of people.
It was alleged there had been an altercation at a nearby cafe, where a 48-year-old woman and a 53-year-old man were assaulted.
Thaler, a 51-year-old who lives in the Snowy Monaro, was arrested. He was taken to Cooma Police Station where he was charged and then granted conditional bail to appear in court today.
He has been handed two counts of common assault as well as single counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, choking and remaining on enclosed land without a lawful excuse.
In court, his bail was continued and the matter was adjourned to 3 July.
