Primary school aged children can be kept entertained these school holidays with Eurobodalla Council’s guided ‘enviro treasure hunt’ activity sheets.
The free educational activities are tied to eight different locations: Surfside Beach, Barlings Beach, Tomaga Estuary, Mossy Point, Broulee Island, Shelly Beach, Congo Point and Narooma Estuary.
The council’s environmental education officer, Bernadette Davis, said the activity sheets were developed to help parents answer some of the curly questions children ask when exploring their local beach.
“The kids don’t have to stay stuck at home due to COVID-19 these school holidays – get them outside to explore some of our beautiful beaches, rock platforms and estuaries, and hopefully ignite some interest in the natural environment,” she said.
“The activities in the sheets cover marine and coastal ecosystems, as well as a little local history to help them understand and value the environment they are exploring.
“You could learn about Waratah Anemone, or how to identify moon snail egg cases, and which shells are carnivores. You might even get a wave from a semaphore crab while you are out exploring.”
