Police are investigating an alleged animal cruelty matter after a cow was reportedly shot in the face with an arrow on the NSW South Coast.

The incident took place at the rural locality of Turlinjah, which is between the towns of Batemans Bay and Narooma.

A South Coast Police District spokesperson said a cow was reportedly shot in the face with a bow and arrow at the locality between 3 and 6 pm on 9 February 2025.

The arrow was still stuck in the cow’s nose when officers arrived at the scene.

What sort of person does this? The same sort that celebrates trapping animals?

I fail to understand why bow and arrow owners are not required to have a licence. These weapons are a lethal firearm, yet you can walk into an outdoor shop and buy one without understanding any regulations relating to their use.

Axes, knives, machetes,
sharpened broomsticks and a bag of rocks perhaps?
We’re way overegulated as it is thanks!

John – guns and bows & arrows fire a mechanically assisted missile – hence more lethal than a hand held weapon. Also, firearms are fired from a distance, not needing face to face contact.
