Once a sleepy fishing village, Kalkite is becoming more popular with young families and those seeking a peaceful mountain getaway just 15 minutes from Jindabyne.
And when you’re in the mountains, there’s no better place to live than a cosy mountain lodge, right?
Well, here’s a chance to own your very own rustic timber lodge soaking in breathtaking views over Lake Jindabyne and beyond to Kalkite mountain and Guthega Valley.
Sales agent Nigel Rae from Henley Properties Jindabyne says it’s not often the quintessential Scandinavian-style lodge comes onto the market.
He says 1/13 Magnolia Avenue, Kalkite has plenty to offer as a family home, holiday retreat or investment property.
“The home is really large and open, and with all the timber, it feels like a holiday house,” he said.
“You feel like you’re on holidays; you just want to relax as soon as you walk through the door.”
Mr Rae says the views are unbeatable.
“The two big sunrooms are so warm in winter and look out over the lake and to the mountains,” he said.
“There’s loads of space with the extra big loft up the top which provides room for extra beds or is a cool place for teenagers to hang out.
“At the back of the tandem garage, there’s a bit of a man cave which would be the perfect place for a pool table and bar.”
Outside doesn’t disappoint either, with sunny decks taking in the views and a great firepit area.
“It’s a great home for entertaining and sitting around the fire pit with a beer or cocktail,” Mr Rae added.
On the lower level, the large entrance, with mudroom and internal access to the garage, leads to three bedrooms and two bathrooms.
The living room opens onto an established garden with plenty of seating around the fire pit.
The upper level features a light-filled open plan living, dining and kitchen that opens onto the sunroom with decks on each side, plus a guest bathroom. A secret ladder takes you up to the loft space.
Mr Rae said Kalkite was originally established as a fishing village, with huts right on the lake, but it’s grown in recent years as many young families move to the area.
“In summer, it’s beautiful right on the lake there, with water sports such as water skiing, canoeing and, of course, fishing.
“It’s a popular place for families who can’t afford to live in Jindabyne and has a really nice community feel.
“In winter, it’s great for skiing, and it’s just 45 minutes to the snowfields and 15 minutes to Berridale and Jindabyne.”
Mr Rae says the home is ideal for anyone seeking a holiday retreat or an investment property (or both!)
“It’s a popular area with visitors all year round, so it would make a great Airbnb or permanent rental accommodation.”
With the lake and snow so close by, and the proposed link to the Mill Creek Mountain Bike Trails, it’s the perfect home away from home.
The property will go to auction on 1 July.
