Does your kid have a wild imagination? Can they put colours on paper? Do they attend a primary school in the Riverina?
If the answer is yes, yes and yes, then they have all they need to become an award-winning artist and to win a share of almost $3000 in prizes for themselves and their school!
Region Riverina and the Wagga Wagga Marketplace are teaming up again in 2024 for our annual Primary School Art Competition showcasing the incredible talent of young artists in our local community.
Region is passionate about telling local stories, so this year we want imagination and creativity to run wild with the theme “The Future of the Riverina”.

Is it flying cars, drone harvesters, self-shearing sheep, hovering schoolbags or robot teachers? The options are endless, but every artwork will need to include a local landmark to keep it grounded in our region.
Local news, local voices and local people are the lifeblood of any community, and we’d love to see as many primary schools as possible from across the Riverina region get involved in this unique celebration of our budding artists.
As well as thousands of dollars’ worth of prizes, the artwork will be on display for two months in a special exhibition at one of the Riverina’s busiest shopping centres and online at RegionRiverina.com.au.
To make it simple, all artwork must be A1 size and we’re providing the paper. You can pick up your special competition pack from Wagga Marketplace and get to work as a class or individual artists can choose to represent their school.

Last year, the competition attracted 20 entries from 10 local schools and showcased some of the Riverina’s most iconic locations and features with Ethan Dyason of Estella Primary School taking first place.
Finalists will be judged by an expert panel who will pick a winner, a runner-up, third place, and people’s choice based on voting from visitors to the Wagga Marketplace.
All entrants will receive a participation certificate, their artwork will be on display at the Wagga Wagga Marketplace during September-October and they will be invited to attend the announcement of winners in October.
Finalist prizes include:
- First place $750 awarded to the school and a $200 Wagga Marketplace gift card to the student
- Second place $500 awarded to the school and a $150 Wagga Marketplace gift card to the student
- Third place $300 awarded to the school and a $100 Wagga Marketplace gift card to the student
- People’s choice award – $750 awarded to the school and a $200 Wagga Marketplace gift card.
So pick up your entry pack, get your school on board and, once the artwork is completed, either drop it off or mail it back to Wagga Marketplace by Friday 13 September.
