UPDATE, 1:15 pm – One northbound lane of the Hume Highway has been re-opened as clean-up from a B-Double crash continued near Yass.
Hazmat teams were on scene to mop up the paint and thinner that was spread across the highway after a truck rolled at about 9 pm last night (Wednesday, 20 July) in the northbound lane.
Diversions have been lifted but traffic on Yass Valley Way remained heavy, with motorists told to expect delays.
One northbound and one southbound lane remained closed.
A police investigation into the crash has begun, with anyone witnesses or people with dashcam footage urged to contact Yass Police on 6226 9399.
21 JULY, 8 am – The clean-up continues following a B-Double crash on the Hume Highway near Yass overnight (20 July).
Just before 9 pm, emergency services received reports a truck had crashed near Yass Valley Way.
Police said preliminary reports suggested the truck had rolled, spilling paint across the highway and blocking the northbound lane.
The clean up was expected to last well into this morning (Thursday, 21 July), with the northbound lane still closed and one southbound lane shut.
The driver was treated at the scene for minor injuries.
Northbound traffic has been diverted back down the Yass Valley Way and along the Barton Highway to link back up with the Hume Highway.
Yass residents noted an increase in truck traffic through the town overnight.
“Fun fact… I counted more than 100 trucks between 1 and 2 am. I couldn’t sleep because of the noise,” one local posted on social media.
“Yes and living on Comur st is VERY LOUD!!!!” wrote another.
