Arrest made after counterfeit cash allegedly used across South Coast

An arrest has been made after counterfeit cash was allegedly used at several businesses across the NSW Far South Coast.

NSW Police allege counterfeit $50 and $100 notes were used at businesses in Eden, Pambula and Merimbula this summer.

They were alerted after fake $50 dollar notes were allegedly handed to businesses at Merimbula and Eden on New Year’s Day (1 January 2025) and began an investigation.

Following their inquiries, they arrested a 27-year-old man in Merimbula Drive, Merimbula on Wednesday (8 January).

When he was searched, officers allegedly found and seized a number of small resealable bags containing drugs.

Officers also searched a car and allegedly found more drugs and a knuckle duster.

The man was charged with two counts of possessing a false document to obtain a financial advantage, as well as possessing or using a prohibited weapon without a permit and possessing a prohibited drug.

He was granted bail to appear at Bega Local Court on 11 February.

Police said the alleged counterfeit cash was seized.
