Suspected human remains found at Merimbula building site

Suspected human remains have been found on a Far South Coast construction site.

A NSW Police spokesperson said construction workers made the discovery on a property on Main Street in Merimbula on Friday (13 February).

Officers from the South Coast Police District were called to the scene at about 8:30 am after workers uncovered what appeared to be a human skull and several bones.

A crime scene was established, and detectives started an investigation.

As of late on Tuesday (17 February), the spokesperson said that, following a forensic examination, the bones have been identified as Indigenous remains.

“Investigators are now reviewing historical missing-person cases, and forensic examinations are expected to help determine the identity of the deceased and the cause of death.”

Police are also awaiting forensic analysis.
