Murder charges have been laid against two people in the NSW Southern Tablelands.

At about 7 am on 3 January 2026, police were called to a Joshua Street home in Goulburn, following a concern for welfare report.

Officers attached to The Hume Police District attended and forced entry into the home, where they located the body of a 48-year-old woman with multiple stab wounds.

Detectives attached to Hume Police District established a crime scene before the matter was referred to the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad.

Following the discovery, detectives commenced Strike Force Emsworth to investigate.

At about 8:30 am yesterday (5 February), Strike Force detectives carried out a search warrant in Goulburn.

They arrested 40-year-old Anne-Marie Streek and a 44-year-old Stephen Henry Evans.

She was taken to Southern Highlands Police Station, while he was taken to Goulburn Police Station.

Both have been charged with one count of murder (DV).

Their cases were briefly heard in bail court today (6 February), when neither applied for bail.

On Friday (6 February), Homicide Squad commander Detective Superintendent Joe Doueihi alleged a “sharp instrument or object” had been used to stab the victim.

“[She] had sustained a number of stab wounds and died as a result of those injuries,” he said.

He also revealed officers believed the victim was murdered on 30 December, before being discovered several days later.

“Police had attended that location as a result of a concern for welfare from an associate of the deceased female who had an appointment with her and had failed to turn up.”

He said a “motivation” for the alleged offending was “not clear at this stage”.

He also said the victim had been in a relationship with Ms Steek until it ended early last year, and she would then start a relationship with her co-accused.

On Friday, Detective Superintendent Doueihi called for the public’s help with their investigation.

He said the two accused were known to have visited Lake Burrinjuck, near Yass, between 31 December and 3 January.

“We are seeking some information in relation to the movements of the male and female … They were driving a light blue-coloured Toyota Camry, which had a small white fishing boat and trailer on the rear.

“I have a registration number – CJ49XV. If there’s anyone who was in that area who may have seen the vehicle with the boat on it, we would ask that they come forward and contact police.”

Both Ms Streek and Mr Evans are next scheduled to face court on 15 April, and have not entered pleas.
