Two police officers called to a beach on NSW’s South Coast on the weekend were allegedly attacked by a naked man who is accused of punching or kicking them in their heads.

The officers went to Bawley Beach around 7:30 pm on Friday (9 January) due to a concern for welfare report, a NSW Police spokesperson said.

The beach is at Bawley Point, which is a coastal hamlet about halfway between Batemans Bay and Ulladulla.

The police spokesperson said the officers tried to speak to a 21-year-old man who was not wearing any clothes, but he allegedly became uncooperative and then assaulted a male senior constable.

While the officers arrested the man, he allegedly punched a female constable in the head and the officers had to use OC spray to get him under control.

He then allegedly kicked the male senior constable in the face, causing serious facial injuries.

Both the man, who Region has currently not named for legal reasons, and this constable were taken to the Shoalhaven Hospital.

After the man was released, he was charged with causing grievous bodily harm to a police officer, assaulting a police office and hindering or resisting a police officer.

He appeared in the NSW local courts on Saturday (10 January), where he was granted bail to live in Sydney and must abide by several conditions.

These conditions include reporting to Waverly Police Station every day, surrendering his passport and not consuming alcohol or drugs.

The matter will appear in the Nowra Local Court on 23 January.
