UPDATED, Friday (8 August): A truck driver involved in a crash that resulted in the death of a man on the NSW Far South Coast has been charged.
NSW Police said there was a crash between a Toyota ute, a Mazda SUV and a Kenworth prime mover truck on the Princes Highway at Frogs Hollow around 11 am on Thursday (7 August).
Sadly, the 54-year-old male driver of the ute died at the scene.
The driver of the Mazda, a 78-year-old man, and his 77-year-old female passenger were taken to Bega’s hospital with minor injuries.
The driver of the truck, a 21-year-old man, was uninjured and was taken to Bega Hospital for mandatory testing.
After an investigation, the truck driver was charged with dangerous driving occasioning death and negligent driving occasioning death.
He was granted conditional bail to appear at Bega Local Court on 23 September.
While the crash closed the Princes Highway to all traffic for a time, it was open again by Friday morning.
Meanwhile, a woman was seriously injured in a two-vehicle crash further north on the same day.
There was a two-vehicle crash on the Princes Highway at Yatte Yattah, which is about 10 km north of Ulladulla, before 6 pm on Thursday afternoon, NSW Police said.
The driver of a Mazda 3, a woman in her 80s, was taken to Shoalhaven Hospital with minor injuries while her female passenger, also in her 80s, was airlifted to St George Hospital in a serious condition.
The driver of the second vehicle, a woman believed to be aged in her 20s, was taken to Shoalhaven Hospital with minor injuries.
Police have begun an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash.
THURSDAY: A three-vehicle crash involving a truck on the NSW Far South Coast has resulted in a man’s death and closed a major highway to all traffic.
Police received reports that a ute, a car and a truck collided on the Princes Highway at Frogs Hollow, which is about 13 km south of Bega, after 11 am on Thursday (7 August).
The male driver of the ute was treated by paramedics, but sadly died at the scene. He is yet to be formally identified.
The male truck driver was not injured and was taken to Bega Hospital for mandatory testing.
“Officers attached to South Coast Police District have established a crime scene and have commenced an investigation into the incident,” a NSW Police spokesperson said.
“A report will be prepared for the coroner.”
According to Live Traffic NSW, the Princes Highway remained closed between Candelo-Bega Road and Wanatta Lane as of 4 pm on Thursday.
Diversions are in place:
- Light vehicles – Wanatta Lane, Candelo-Wolumla Road, William Street, Candelo-Bega Road. Suitable for both directions.
- Heavy vehicles 19m/50t and under – Princes Highway, Snowy Mountains Highway, Mogilla Road, Candelo-Wolumla Road. Suitable for both directions.
