Charges laid after boy's accidental shooting death near Goulburn

A man and a teenager have been charged after a nine-year-old boy was accidentally shot and died on a rural property near Goulburn on the weekend.

Emergency services were called to a property on Fernleigh Close in Windellama, a locality about 40 km south of Goulburn, over reports of a shooting on Sunday morning (13 April), a NSW Police spokesperson said.

Officers were told a nine-year-old boy had been injured after a firearm was unintentionally discharged.

Paramedics treated the boy for serious neck injuries but he died at the scene.

Police established a crime scene and began an investigation under Strike Force Dalzeill.

As a result of their investigation, a 14-year-old boy and a 33-year-old man were arrested and taken to Goulburn Police Station.

The teenager was charged with possessing an unauthorised firearm and granted bail to appear before a children’s court in May.

The 33-year-old man was charged with allowing an unauthorised person to possess a firearm and not keeping a firearm safely. He will also appear before a court in May.
