An investigation is underway into how a man died after he allegedly fired a gun in a car in front of police officers in the Snowy Mountains.
A NSW Police spokesperson said emergency services were called to Wee Jasper Road at Bombowlee, a rural locality just north of Tumut, over a concern for welfare at around 2 pm on Friday (28 February).
Officers tried to speak to a man, believed to be aged in his 40s, who was seated in a parked car, allegedly with a firearm.
The man then allegedly discharged the firearm.
While paramedics treated the man, he was unable to be revived and died at the scene.
He was yet to be formally identified immediately after the incident.
Police established a crime scene and began enquiries.
“A report will be prepared for the coroner,” the police spokesperson said.
“A critical incident team from Murrumbidgee Police District will investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
“The investigation will be subject to an independent review.”
