Truth be told, we’re a bit culture-heavy this week in the What’s On, but we’re embracing it!

Whether it’s the Jazz Age and a classic musical, experiencing art in a variety of mediums, burlesque or chamber choirs, we’re there!

But a healthy mind needs a healthy body, so we might crack out the sneakers for a parkrun (it could happen!) or go for a walk (more likely). Whatever you choose, get out there and make the most of it!

Multiple Days

Broadway performance in Queanbeyan

When: 1 to 10 November, performances at 2 pm and 7:30 pm
Where: “The Q” Queanbeyan Performing Arts Centre, 253 Crawford St, Queanbeyan
Cost: Tickets from $30 to $59.

The Queanbeyan Players present Nice Work If You Can, Get It! a hilarious musical comedy featuring the writing talent of George and Ira Gershwin (and includes some of their most beloved works, like ‘Let’s Call The Whole Thing Off’ and the American songbook standard ‘Someone To Watch Over Me’).

This tale centres on the carefree, wealthy playboy Jimmy Winter during prohibition. Usually happy to pal around with dancing girls, he is forced by his mother to marry a respectable young woman. Yet as soon as he finds himself engaged, he also becomes trapped in a complex nexus of prohibitionists, senators, bootleggers and chorus girls. Laugh and tap your foot along to the excesses and contradictions of the Jazz Age.

Breathe by Debra Jurss

When: 1 to 24 November
Where: Suki and Hugh Gallery, 38A Gibraltar St, Bungendore
Cost: Free entry.

Debra Jurss’s new exhibition of glassworks is heavily inspired by the liminal spaces of Antarctica and Scotland. The bareness of those environments is visible in her works, with a greater emphasis on line and form rather than detail. Her works explore the nature of breath and breathing, a simple part of life that she seeks to explore both in relation to the COVID-19 pandemic and the physical world we live in. Debra Jurss is proof that regional Australia punches well above its weight artistically.
