A police officer has been arrested and charged with drink-driving after he was allegedly caught over the legal limit on the NSW South Coast.

NSW Police said officers stopped a Holden ute on Kerrisons Lane, near Bega, at around 7:30 pm on Thursday night (17 October) to give the driver a random breath test.

The driver allegedly returned a positive reading and was arrested. He was taken to Bega Police Station where a breath analysis allegedly returned a reading of 0.073.

He was charged with driving with a low range PCA and his licence was suspended.

Police said while the 43-year-old is a senior constable attached to a Southern Region command, he was off-duty at the time of his arrest.

His charge was scheduled to be heard in the Bega Local Court on 29 October.

“The officer’s employment status is under review,” a police spokesperson said.
