Police arrested a man in NSW’s Southern Tablelands and handed him more than 70 charges over the alleged abuse of eight children on the state’s northern coast during a 10-year period.

Sex Crimes Squad detectives had been investigating the alleged historic sexual assaults of a number of children in the Coffs Harbour area, a NSW Police spokesperson said on Wednesday (16 October).

Strike Force Durrumbul was established in November 2023 to focus on the allegations.

On Tuesday (15 October), strike force detectives were helped by Corrective Services NSW when they arrested a man, a 54-year-old from the Penrith City region, at Goulburn police station.

He was charged with 76 alleged historical child sex and physical violence offences, which police will contend occurred against eight children in Coffs Harbour between 1998 and 2008.
