There’s so much happening across the regions as we head into spring that it’s hard to know which event to check out first.

This list of our top nine picks will get you excited. Medieval life is set to take over Queanbeyan, a show about dinosaurs will keep the youngsters entertained and there’s a workshop for those looking to get their hands dirty in their garden – and that’s just for starters.

Kaleidoscope of Colours exhibition

When: 31 August to 29 September, 10 am to 4 pm (Saturdays and Sundays)
Where: Murringo Barracks, 2244 Murringo Road, Murringo
Cost: Free entry.

This exhibition from local photographer Maree Myhill is set to close soon, so make some time to check out the photographs. They are on display at the historic Murringo Barracks, which were built in 1880 and are a 20-minute drive from Young.

MADAG exhibition

When: 20 to 29 September, 10 am to 4 pm daily
Where: Hall, Twyford Theatre, 16 Market Street, Merimbula
Cost: Free entry.

Members of the Merimbula and District Arts Group have been hard at work putting the finishing touches on their artworks, and now is your chance to see them. If one catches your eye, ask if it’s been sold – you might be the lucky person taking it home.

Queanbeyan Medieval Fair

When: 21 and 22 September, 10 am to 4:30 pm
Where: Queanbeyan Showgrounds, Glebe Avenue, Queanbeyan
Cost: A single-day adult ticket costs $21 (tickets for children aged between 10 and 16 cost $10) and is available via Trybooking (two-day tickets and family passes are also available).

Queanbeyan Showground will look like something out of a movie set this weekend when the Medieval Fair returns. Travel back in time over the two-day festival, featuring jousting and other performances on horseback, fierce competition at the full combat area and plenty of living history opportunities where you can see what life was like hundreds of years ago. The fair is pet friendly, though all dogs need to remain on a lead.

Salonistas at Yazzbar

When: 21 September, 7 to 10 pm
Where: Yazzbar Wine and Music, 81-85 Comur Street, Yass
Cost: Free entry.

The Salonistas are taking over Yazzbar. The five-piece group from Sydney’s inner west will take to the stage and perform songs with a twist – spanning genres including country, Americana, rockabilly, blues and soul.

Seed Saving Workshop for Beginners

When: 21 September, 10:30 am to 12:30 pm
Where: Moruya Library, Vulcan Street, Moruya
Cost: Free entry, though attendees must register via eventbrite.

If spring has got you thinking of gardening, this workshop is for you. Julie Davies from Bega Valley Seed Savers will lead this workshop, covering how to save seeds from edible plants.

This session is intended for beginners (and so will cover the basics from choosing seeds to how to store them). Attendees are asked to arrive 10 minutes early so the workshop can start at 10:30 am.

Bungendore Spring Market

When: 21 September, 9 am to 1:30 pm
Where: The Village Square, 23 Malbon Street, Bungendore
Cost: Free entry.

Looking for something to treat yourself with after making it through another chilly winter? This market, featuring local businesses, is your chance to pick up something special for yourself.

Natalie Childs Artist Talk

When: 21 September, 1 to 3 pm
Where: Tyger Gallery, Memorial Hall, 84 Comur Street, Yass
Cost: Free entry, though attendees are asked to register via the gallery’s website.

Natalie Childs, the artist behind The Night Sky exhibition, is stopping by the gallery for a chat about her latest exhibition. The exhibition is comprised of 14 skyscrapers of constellations and the Australian landscape underneath it. In each of her artworks, she draws from her strong connection to Country, and the sky, sea and land.

Leeton Mooncake Festival

When: 21 September, 4 to 8 pm
Where: Mountford Park, 4 Jarrah Street, Leeton
Cost: Free entry.

Take a trip out to Leeton and explore the new Mooncake Festival! The Mid-Autumn Festival, as it is more commonly known, falls on the 15th day of the eighth lunar month, generally falling in mid-September or early October. In numerous Asian nations, it is a time for family and friends to get together and celebrate – and of course, enjoy lantern displays.

In Leeton, the festival is being celebrated at Mountford Park and will feature music and live performances, lantern-making workshops, food stalls and cultural festivities.

Dorothy the Dinosaur’s Spectacular Show!

When: 24 September, 9:30 am
Where: Bega Valley Commemoraitive Civic Centre, Zingel Place, Bega
Cost: Tickets cost $28.60 and are available via OzTix.

This show brings together The Wiggles’ greatest hits, and is stopping in Bega as part of the group’s Australian tour. Send the kids off to have some fun – and you might recognise some from your own childhood! Whether the kids are fans of Hot Potato or Rock-A-Bye Your Bear, they’ll be singing along in no time.
