A person has been charged with seven offences following a Cooma crash, which left a 25-year-old man dead.
Emergency services received reports a car had crashed into a tree on Vulcan Street, Cooma, at about 11:45 pm on Saturday (18 November).
The passenger, a 25-year-old man, was treated by paramedics, however he died at the scene.
Officers were told witnesses had seen the driver, a 23-year-old man, had left the scene prior to their arrival.
The man later presented to Canberra Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, and has been under police guard.
NSW Police have since requested the man, identified in court documents as Marcus William Hargrave, be extradited from the ACT, which was granted by the magistrate’s court on Wednesday (22 November).
Upon his release from hospital, the man was taken to Queanbeyan Police Station.
There, he was charged with dangerous driving occasioning death (drive manner dangerous), failure to stop and assist after vehicle impact causing death, driving motor vehicle during a disqualification period, negligent driving (occasioning death), prolonged/sustained loss of traction, driving unregistered and driving while uninsured.
The man appeared before Cooma Local Court on Thursday (23 November), where he was remanded in custody.
He’s scheduled to reappear on 7 February 2024.
